Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Samsung, Micron, and Hynix For DRAM Price Fixing

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Samsung, Micron, and Hynix by law firm Hagens Berman in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. According to the investigation by the firm these three DRAM manufacturers conspired to limit the supply of DRAM chips between 2016 and 2017 with the purpose of inflating their prices.

Chinese Mining Company Bitmain Has Higher Profits Than NVIDIA

According to a recent report Chinese mining hardware giant Bitmain has had higher profits in 2017 than long-time GPU giant NVIDIA. A report published February 21 from investment research company Bernstein, says that the four-year-old Bitmain reportedly made between $3 and $4 billion in operating profit in 2017, whereas NVIDIA made about $3 billion during the same period.

Samsung Confirms They Are Working on Mining Chip

As we reported last week, Samsung has entered volume production of a crypto-currency mining ASIC. These reports have been confirmed today by Samsung themselves, stating that they have entered the mining ASIC manufacturing market. The report last week mentioned an “unnamed client from China”, who placed a massive order for a crypto-currency mining ASIC. This news was later somewhat confirmed by Samsung’s latest earnings report, which did mention a higher than expected revenue in the semiconductor business due to “Samsung’s acquisition of new China clients”.

Samsung Working On 32:9, 29:9 Ultra-Wide Panels

As we know Samsung is all about ultra-wide displays and they are now working on what are being called Double Full HD monitors. These will allow users using VR headsets to have their field of vision almost filled with screen real estate. One of the new panels Samsung is working on is 49-inch wide, 32:9, 3840×1080 display.
